“What if we pool our money and buy out Mac? We’ll both own the business. You run the surveys, I can do the design work.” He kissed her cheek and nose and her chin. “Don’t you think we’d make a great team?” He kissed the tender spot behind her ear and nipped her lobe.

Her eyelids lowered. She couldn’t think as his lips traced a path from her neck to the opening at the front of her button-down shirt. The edge of the desk pressed into her rear, but she didn’t want to move and break the spell. “Are you trying to seduce me, Nick?”

He pulled back and grinned. “You noticed.”

He kissed her open-mouthed, pulling her into his body. Her breasts tightened as liquid heat flowed through her body. The kiss deepened until her arms came around his neck.

She came up for breath. “Are you sure?”

“I’m crazy about you. I can’t believe you didn’t know. But then you were probably too busy eating something gross and trying to convince yourself you couldn’t possibly be someone I’d want in my life. Because you aren’t a beanpole covered with makeup like your sister. You’re smart and sexy and you have a big heart. Nothing a guy would be interested in.”

She smiled against his neck. Maybe it could work. They’d never know unless they tried and if it didn’t?

Be positive for once in your life.

“You think you know me, huh.”

“And I want to get to know you better. ”He looked over toward the door. “Shall we lock it and do a little negotiating?”

She grinned and ran her fingers down his chest. “That’s a very good idea. But I don’t think I can wait. Let’s live dangerously.”

He lifted her onto the edge of the desk and she wrapped her legs around his waist. A hard ridge nestled against her sensitive core. He undid the buttons on her shirt allowing his lips to leave a trail of heat along the edge of her lacy bra.

“Kind of fancy for surveying.” He dipped his finger between her breasts. They tightened with anticipation. “Maybe it should come off.” He reached behind and loosened the fastening, pulling it down.

His thumbs skimmed the tips of her breasts, making her gasp with pleasure. She wriggled out of her shirt and dropped the bra on the floor, moaning when his tongue found her nipple.

“You’re so beautiful, and so responsive. I’ve wanted to taste you since the night you came undone over a glass of wine.”

It was a compliment and she’d take it. No more self doubts.

She pulled his shirt out of his pants and reached underneath to run her hands over the hard muscles of his chest and arms. “You have on too many clothes.”

He picked her up, her legs still wrapped around him and carried her to the conference table. Setting her on her feet, they both stepped out of the rest of their clothes. In seconds she was on her back on top of the table, a hard male body next to hers, her head resting on a bunched up shirt.

“I wish we had a bed.” He raised himself up on his elbow, propped his head with one hand, and lazily stroked her with the other. “So beautiful.”

His lips left a trail of fire as they followed the path his fingers had taken, moving over her breasts, stomach, and lower, shocking her senses. She couldn’t breathe. She squirmed and moaned, her fists clenched at her sides, as his tongue licked and probed until fire threatened to consume her. He kissed his way back to her breast and closed over a nipple while his fingers probed her warmth.

Her hands found his length and stroked gently.

  “You’d better not do that.”

Someone walked by just outside the door and paused. She didn’t breathe again until she heard them walk by.

  Nick pulled away.

  “Condom. Wallet.”

When he returned he pulled her up and over to the edge of the table. He spread her legs and wedged between them. Drawing her against his body he kissed her open-mouthed as his fingers reached down to explore and part her folds.

Her senses were on overload. If he didn’t get to the main event soon she’d explode with foreplay. She couldn’t believe how intense her feelings were for a man she’d known for so little time.

Her body didn’t care. She wanted this. She wanted him.

  Now.

She cried out as he finally thrust inside. His sounds of pleasure soaked into her soul. It felt so good, so good.

His body was solid and strong, but his mouth was gentle as he drove deeper. It had been so long she was surprised she’d lasted beyond the first thrust. Tilting her hips she met his thrusts while her body clenched around him, tightening and tightening until she burst in a cascade of tremors that left her limp and tingling.

  And wanting more.

He groaned as he found his own release. Afterward she clung to him as he kissed her throat then held her so tight she couldn’t breathe.

When he stepped back, his eyes were soft with just a hint of mischief. “I think we’ve found a new use for Mac’s table.”

She felt her lips curving up into a smile. “I will never again look at a set of plans the same way.”

He lifted her off the table and ran his hand over her butt, turning her toward the bathroom. “Let's get dressed before someone comes in finds out why this place is called Plumb Crazy. And let’s do this again. I vote for your place. It’s closer.”

She giggled as she picked up her clothes. A languid feeling crept over her and she realized it was happiness. She was in lust and well on her way to being in love and she thought Nick might be, too. And they both had found what they wanted in the wonderful little town of St. Helena.

She winked at Nick. “If we go to my place, I get to be in charge.”

A slow smile curved his lips. “You got it, babe.”

What would Mac think when he got back? Maybe this was what he had in mind all along, that devious old codger. Maybe he’d hoped his two favorite people would get together and Plumb Crazy, the business he started from scratch, would have a sound future.

She washed and dressed and patted her hair into place. Nick waited by the door, his bronzed body as gorgeous as she’d first imagined it when he’d stood in front of Bomber with cables in his hands.

“Hurry and get dressed,” she said. “We have work to do.”

  “Who says?”

  “The new owner.”

“This new owner says we’re going to get something to eat. I’m hungry.”

So was she. She looked up as shafts of sunlight flooded the interior through the skylights. There would be no rain today.

Their new partnership was off to a great start and she had a feeling only her crazy Aunt Chloe would understand.

It was going to get better and better.
